You filled the roads. Now fill the seas.
It’s no secret that Michigan has manufacturing in its DNA. By shaping the nation’s automotive industry at the turn of the 20th century, it staked its claim as a manufacturing powerhouse. Now it’s time for Michigan’s next great act: to apply its talent to the nation’s most critical strategic defense initiative and help build our next generation of submarines.
See Job OpportunitiesA mission that can only be achieved with Michigan
Transforming our nuclear-powered submarine fleet and maintaining the U.S.’s critical undersea advantage requires contributions from all 50 states. And Michigan is ready to meet the demand. With its rich manufacturing heritage, existing industrial infrastructure, and strategic location, Michigan already has the foundation to be a submarine-building powerhouse.
In fact, over 400 Michigan businesses already support the mission, and 175 are located in the Greater Detroit area alone. What the state needs now is individuals like you to bring your skills — or desire to learn new skills — to these supplying businesses. In response, the Michigan Maritime Manufacturing (M³) Initiative was launched to manage the training and recruitment of promising talent for this endeavor.
Your invitation to continue Michigan’s legacy
Michigan’s submarine manufacturing industry is on a steep growth trajectory, creating countless job opportunities in diverse fields such as welding, additive manufacturing, machining, quality assurance, and more. If you aren’t sure if you fit the mold for this vital work, think again — there is no mold.
Building submarines means being a part of something bigger: ensuring the security of our nation. Building submarines alongside fellow Michiganders is personal: together, your efforts help cement the state’s legacy of innovation and craftsmanship.
